The smart home has risen in popularity over the years, and it only continues to become more popular as we seek new ways in making our daily life smarter, easier access to information, security, and connecting with others.  While voice assistants have seen steady growth as one of the most commonly owned smart home devices, other connected devices such as smart locks, lights, smart kitchens, and all kind of assitants that have proven to ease our lifes – especially since the pandemic.

The Connectivity

The smart home is currently connected over a variety of networks and devices. From Wi-Fi to Z-Wave and Bluetooth, it’s a compilation of different technologies that have made installation and use difficult for many smart home adopters. But this could all soon change with new technologies.

There are a couple of upcoming wireless trends (5G, Wi-Fi 6, Mesh-wifi and the standards defined by the  CHIP initiative) will combine to push Smart Home forward in a very big way.

Mesh WiFi is definitely one of the important of smart home technology trends we’ve seen. It is a lot more effective and smarter than a standard router, It uses artificial intelligence to deliver consistent speeds throughout the home.

But there is also Connected Home over IP Project, more commonly known as CHIP. CHIP will completely change how developers make products, as well as how consumers buy, install and use them. In the next year, there will be more CHIP-related announcements that will ensure greater compatibility between the variety of smart home devices already on the market.
